City Central Mosque Stoke is situated in the heart of Stoke on Trent, a diverse city with a rich history. It is our belief that our primary concern should be to serve the needs of the local community and to work towards the common good with a strong Islamic ethos.
Formally known as the Islamic Centre on Bedford Road in Shelton, which was first established in 1976, we were one of the first established Muslim places of worship within Stoke on Trent and we served a very small close knit community.
As the community grew over the next 25 years the need for more space was inevitable. A piece of land on Regent Road in Hanley, which is in the heart of the city, became available for regeneration and was subsequently purchased. A fundraising campaign started with the target of over 3 million pounds to build Stoke on Trent’s first purpose built Mosque.
By the will of Allah Azawajal our new Mosque was completed and opened in July 2013.
Our new Mosque has excellent facilities:
- Main prayer hall with a capacity for up to 700 worshippers.
- Lower hall used for daily prayers capacity for up to 200 worshippers.
- Lower prayer hall for women capacity for up to 100 worshippers.
- Separate women’s entrance and wudu facilities
- Lift
- Management office
- Secure car park for 125 cars, including 8 allocated disabled parking spaces.
- CCTV for worshippers safety
- Modern Gushl and Storage facilities for the deceased.
Since its establishment in 1976 the Islamic Centre and City Central Mosque has always been a non sectarian non political organisation.
We work closely with the local community and organisations to promote community cohesion. Annual Charity Collections for Douglas Macmillan Trust, national disaster collections, Staffordshire Police and the NHS to name a few. We are open to all people regardless of religion and we regularly organise visits for local schools, colleges, universities and community groups.
